    Smile have a shot

In "Boston legal ", there is a dialog between Allan and his girl friend, after Allan's ex-girl friend come to him, he said to his girl friend ""we have a shot?", and his girl friend replied "we have a shot". Could any one explain what does "have a shot" mean?

    Re: have a shot

    My humble speculations:

I think "we have a shot" if we simply get "lucky"

or "to have a shot at" = "to try one's luck" = "to take a shot at"

    Re: have a shot

"Have a shot" in this context means "do we have a chance at succeeding?" or "do we have a chance at success?"

For example, suppose you are applying to be a contestant on the TV game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and you find out that you scored in the top 10 percent on the preliminary quiz. The producer might tell you to stand by for a personal interview, because you have a shot at actually appearing on the show.
