Question Appositions, commas and dashes with

    1. "This is an event that we, Poles, will never forget."
    2. "This is an event that we--Poles--will never forget."
    3. "This is an event that we Poles will never forget."

In one reference book I read only the last sentence is typical of English punctuation. However, elsewhere (Simon & Schuster Handbook for Writers by Troyka and Hesse) I read all might be fine, the second being used to emphasize an example or definition (so I am not sure it might work well in this particular example). So, which are and which are not idiomatic for English?

    Thanks,

The first would work if you had "the Poles"; the second has its place; the third is idiomatic.

Thanks. What's, then, the difference between the two following sentences?
    1. "This is an event that we, the Poles, will never forget."
    2. "This is an event that we Poles will never forget."

They essentially mean the same. The first one allows for stronger emphasis on "us as Poles".
