    past particple and tense

just hoping that you could tell me if these example are past tense or past particple i am having alot of trouble distinguishing between the two.
    "Gaze at the gilded gear"
    "Prepared a sinister mate"
"all their sparkles bleared and black"
    "as the smart ship grew"
    "Alien they semmed to be"
    "sign that they were bent"
    "said "now""

That would be a great help thank you!

Are these from a poem? Could you give us a reference to it?

    Re: past particple and tense

Yes its from the poem "The Convergence of the Twain" by Thomas Hardy. Also i think i made a mistake it is meant to be "seemed" not "semmed".

Thanks for all the help :)
