    Unhappy what is the meaning of "universal calling card"?

    I can't figure out the meaning of "universal calling card" in the following phrase.
    Could you explain it, please.


    "Knowing about good food and wine and having money to spend on eating out is like a universal calling card that you have arrived - it's a status symbol. "

    A "calling card" the old way of describing a business card. In older times if you even visited someone you left a calling card that identified you and perhaps described something about you or what you did for a living.

    "universal" means here that it is understandable by everyone.

    In the above passage, like a universal calling card is being used as a similie for knowledge of good food, wine as well as having the money to to eat in restaurants.

    In other words, displaying such knowledge on food and wine as well as having the money to indulge in restaurants serving these things, is like a business card. When people see this knowledge, people would assume that you were cultured, a gourmand and wealthy
