Question query on the usage of ''Articles" in English

    Hi,

    He is 'an' MLA.

Please let me know why 'an' is used here instead of 'a'

    regards,

Because the choice of ''a'' or ''an'' depends on the sound that immediately follows, not the spelling.
MLA is pronounced em el a, so ''an'' is correct.
But we say 'He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly.', because ''Member'' begins with a 'mm' sound.
