    But

    Dear Teacher,

Can but begin a sentence as I used below? If it is mistaken, how to write correct way?

When I was three, I spent a few days at my grandparentsí house to have a spree in with them. But my grandparents had strict rules and discipline with many dos and doníts, which made me sad!

    With Regards!

It means a spell of unrestrained activity] with them. But my grandparents had strict rules and discipline with many dos and doníts, which made me sad!

You can. Colloquially it is fine.

It is not generally regarded as good formal English. "However" would be the formal word to use.
