    Question Vocabulary Problem

    Hi teachers !
    You people are doing such a great job in spreading knowledge. I always pray for you nice people who help others especially in learning and teaching.My question is;
    Question: One word for sofa, chair, cupboard, table and bed is Furniture. Similarly for lion, tiger, giraffee, camel and goat etc is a single word Animal. There must be more words like Animal and Furniture. What are these Parent words called?
    Regards!

    Re: Vocabulary Problem

    Additionally, the more general catergory (i.e., "Parent word") is called a hyperonym:
    A cat is a kind of animal. (hyperonym)
    A cat is a kind of animal. (hyponym)
    Cat has a hyperonym animal.
    Animal has a hyponym cat.
