    Smile in many sizes

This style of bag is available in many sizes.

What does "in" mean in the phrase "in many sizes?" Thanks.

    Re: in many sizes

I think this is one of those English collocations which simply have to be accepted and learned.

It is clear to a native speaker what is intended by "We have that dress in several sizes and colours" or "Those shoes come in seven shades" or "We can obtain these bags in many sizes" - the items are available with a number of variations.

    Thanks, Anglika.
Based on your sample I bolded, "in" here seems to refer to "with" or "having," but why is it "in many sizes" but not "with/having many sizes?"
Could you come up with a reasonable explanation? Thanks again.

    Re: in many sizes

Just one of those colloquial usages that everyone knows. You could say with many sizes or having many sizes but not as part of a sentence "We have these bags .....".

    Possible uses:

Having many sizes, these bags can be used for different purposes.

With many sizes, these bags are very salable.

    There are these meanings,

    in (preposition)

Within the limits, bounds, or area of: was hit in the face; born in the spring; a chair in the garden.

With the characteristic, attribute, or property of: a tall man in an overcoat.

With reference to: six inches in depth; has faith in your judgment.
