We passed many willages on the way and stopped once or twice to to buy cold drinks, as it was very hot and dusty.
My quesiton is: Can I replace 'as' with 'because'?
In the afternoon heat we were woken by a sudden noise.
I feel a little bit puzzled by the sentence because according to my dictionary, 'awake' means 'LITERARY to stop sleeping or to make someone stop sleeping' or 'to become aware of something or to make someone become aware of something'. However, I came across a sentence like this:
I was awaken by the scream.
So my question is: Can I replace 'woken' in this sentence with 'waken' ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.
Just to be clear :
I was awakened by a loud noise
I was wakened by a loud noise.
But not :
I was waken by a loud noise.
