    meaning

What is the meaning of the red parts?
Sometimes the tides driven by the winds are much higher than usual, and salt water may come far up on the land, making it impossible for crops to grow.
    Thanks

Tide= periodic rise and fall of all ocean waters, including those of open sea, gulfs, and bays, resulting from the gravitational attraction of the moon and the sun upon the water and upon the earth itself.
high tide - the waters of the oceans or seas advance up the land or the beach.
low tide - the waters of the oceans or seas fall back.
The strip of seashore is submerged at high tide and exposed at low tide, ... The level stops falling at low tide.

    come far up:
Over several hours the water rises and advances up the land, making it impossible for crops to grow.
