Smile It sounds weired to me.

This expression comes from a text of the New Concept English Book 4: Because they destroy so many insects, and insects include some of the greatest enemies of the human race.
Wouldn't it be better if we just use " Because they destroy so many insects, including some of the greatest enemies of the human race. "

I don't think you quoted the complete sentence...this is just a clause.

"Why, you may wonder, should spiders be our friends? Because they destroy so many insects, and insects include some of the greatest enemies of the human race."------Lesson 2, Spare that spider.

I think the original statement looks good as it is.
It means that some of the greatest enemies of the human race are insects, not all of the insects but part of the insect family are.

When you add the preceding question the whole thing makes sense now. It is not a good practice to open a sentence using "because" though.
