    Dear Sir,

Should we use "Dear sir" for opening word for an e-mail.Or "dear sir" suitable only for opening word for letter.

    Re: Dear Sir,

Formality is okay in an e-mail, but you shouldn't use it if you don't know that the person is male. If you have a name, it's preferable to use that instead of "Sir."
