    Soul-cutting

    Hi all,

    What does "soul-cutting" mean?

    Context:

"I expected a long soul-cutting sermon..." (it was short); You know, at church, in fact, a ninetieth-century Scottish kirk service, but i am not so sure whether this is relevant or not.

    Thank You.

    Hi, Jiho!

In this sentence 'soul-cutting' means the parishoner was expecting a serious fire and brimstone styled sermon... the kind that really has an impact on your spirituality. A 'soul-cutting' sermon is intended to make the parishoner take a good, hard look at their inner self.

Including the Scottish reference is not necessary for most people to understand the concept.

    Cheers,
