    tap two sniper teams

    Hello everyone,
    I'd like to ask about the meaning of the word "tap" in the following sentence:

    Henry nodded to Lipinski and Opahle, and the two lieutenants each tapped two sniper teams.

    Possibly they each selected two sniper teams.

    I think "tap" means "select" here. Sort of like tapping them on the shoulder.
