    Smile relation/relationship

Even though they sometimes disagree, Beth and Lisa have a good relation/relationship.

Are there rules of thumb to decide when and where to use relation and relationship? For instance, what factors make you pick one rather than the other? Thanks.

    Re: relation/relationship

In this context it has to be "relationship" - the way in which two or more people feel and behave towards each other.

Relation has two meanings: the connection between two elements [What is said in this book bears no relation to the true facts of the case] OR a member of your family [He is a relation. His mother is my aunt]

    Thanks, Anglika.
By the way, is it the same as He is a relation to utter He is a relative?
