giving directions "Go the first right"

    Hi,
I'm afraid my question must sound awfully dumb to all of you out there, but could somebody whose mother tongue is English (preferably from the UK) please help me out with this?
When asked to tell a tourist how to get to XY (e.g. the cinema)
several of my elementary/pre-intermediate English students told him/her
    to "go the first right"...
instead of using "take the first right"
Would this still be considered grammatically correct in B.E.? (no offence meant, but our textbooks are B.E. only )
    thanks in advance.

Your question is not at all stupid.
    As for the answer:
No, go cannot be used in place of take when giving directions.

Thank you for being so succinct - this will cause bloodshed and grief among this lot of 11-year-olds but but I do feel better (and will go on teaching).

I pride myself in an ability to be succinct! (Well, possably not!)

I hope the revelation doesn't cause too much bloodshed though, or I will feel in some way responsable!

Anyway, it was no problem. Good luck in telling your students!
