    What do you call the game that both teams are very close at winning

    team A scores one point this around and team B scores one point the next. and then team A scores again.

    Such a game could be described as a "dog fight" (if it is a hard fought battle) or a "horse race" (if both teams are scoring at will).

    I am sure other metaphors could be used.

    U.S. sports announcers have a variety of cliches to describe a very close game:

    It's a game of inches.
    It's going down to the wire.
    It's a real nail-biter.
    We've got a real barn-burner.
    The fans are getting their money's worth.
    It's a see-saw game.
    It's been nip and tuck all the way.
