    the most

If the superlative of "many" is "THE most", why is "THE" omitted before "most" in sentences beginning with "Most people...."?

    Re: the most

    The superlative is "most".

There are sentences in which you require "the":

greatest in number = "He received the most number of votes."
greatest in extent = "The city has the most enormous parks."

    Without "the"
"In the greatest number of instances": Most people have a good life. Most cats can purr. Most dogs will bark.
