    state of the art

    with the expression 'State of the art' why do we use 'art' as a reference to the modern technology?

    Your quite right, it shouldn't be used referring to technology, but is now used whenever we wish to say of something: this TV is not just new, not just modern, but has all the features of the very latest technological advances - it is state of the art.
