what is this supposed to mean?

this sentence comes from a user's manual:
The PC300 can be turned off under software control from the Wireless Manager application or the signal strength icon in the status tray.

can I understand this as: there is two way to turned off PC300, from the Wireless Manager application, or from the signal strength icon in the status tray?

I got confused by this sentence because i am not sure if a hardware can be turned off from the signal strength icon in the status tray.

Here is what I think. I hope you like it.

"The PC300 can be turned off under software control..."
Means you can use a software switch in addition to the hardware switch. The hardware switch is the On Off button you push with your finger, usually on the front of a computer. A light switch on the wall is a hardware switch that does the same thing for a lightbulb, turns it on and off. A software switch does the same thing--turns the PC300 off--but instead of a button that must be pushed manually, it is a click of the mouse.

"from the Wireless Manager application or the signal strength icon in the status tray"
This is where you find the software switch.

There are two ways that you can turn off the PC300 card : firstly, the software that runs and controls the operation of your WiFi system must have some menu option that allows you to shut down, turn off, the card. Secondly, in the status tray, there is an icon called Signal Strength. Presumably, when you click on this icon and it opens, there is some software button you can click or menu option that allows you to shut down the PC300 card as well.
