    how to use "bordering on"

Could you tell me how to use "bordering on" and its meaning ?

"It's extraordinary, bordering on the unique, for a case of double
    personality..."

Eng.-E dictionary says :"come to close to or

be developing into (an extrem condition)."

I am not clear the meaning in this sentence yet.

Is it a common expression? Does "botfring on" modify "extraordinary"?

You can think of "bordering on" as meaning "almost". It is like you are traveling from Canada to the USA. When you stop on the border, you are almost in the USA.

Yes, this is a common expression. It modifies "unique"
