    Passive voice

Need help to change the sentence into the passive voice and explain.

"They are tearing down old buildings at an incredible rate."

    Does this sound correct?

"The old buildings are being torn down at an incredible rate."

    Explanation? Help! Thanks!

    Re: Passive voice

In the active voice, the person performing the action is the subject of the sentence. In the passive voice, the receiver of the action is the subject of the sentence.
Active : I hit him Passive: He was hit by me
Active :They are tearing down old buildings at an incredible rate
Passive: The old buildings are being torn down at an incredible rate ((by them)).
"by them' is omitted, but you can see that in the passive voice, the person who is performing the action now comes after the "by'.
