    pls correct me

    hi,

    Have little problem with my grammar and i dont know which of the following is better to use. please advise.

    a. "I was told" by my friend to email you blah blah blah
    b. "I have been" told by my friend to email you blah blah blah

    which of these are correct and why? thanks in advance!

    Both are correct. They are expressed using passive voice. That is, their "original sentences" (in active voice) would be:

    1 - My friend told me to email you --> I was told by my friend to email you

    2 - My friend has told me to email you --> I have been told by my friend to email you

    The first sentence is in the Past Simple form and the 2nd one in the Present Perfect form.
