    Re: letter to the editor

I assume this is a letter you wish published in the Letters to the Editor column, as opposed to say, a letter asking about obtaining work experience in a newspaper office, or a job.
Write it formally, but instead of Dear Sir/Madam, the usual form of opening is just "Sir".
Why not write a draft letter and post it on this site? I am sure someone will help if they can see some way in which the style of writing needs to be altered.
