    base, tourism etc.

    Dear teachers,

I have three questions to ask.

    No.1
Is the word 'basic' the adjective of "base" and "basis"? I can't find the answer in my dictionary.

    No.2
Is "tourism industry" the same meaning with "tourist industry' ?

    No.3
Could you please explain the meaning 'open market' to me? Is it the same with 'black market'?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

These words all have the same entomology. "Basic" is the adjective of "basis"
    No.2

We usually do not refer to "tourism industry", but just "tourism". eg Tourism has increased dramatically in Thailand, and the tourist industry (the infrastructure of hotels, domestic flights between cities, taxis, tours within a city etc,) has responded to meet the need.

    No.
    open market
a situation in which companies can trade freely without limits, and prices change in response to supply and demand. Compare this to certain goods which are sold(even in an open market), the basic foods of milk and bread, where the government may fix the price, and suppliers have to apply and justify a price increase.

    Dear David L,
Thank you very much for your explanation. I understand No.2 and No.3 now.

    No.1
So 'base' has no adjective form. Is that right?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Re: base, tourism etc.

"base" means the lowest part or edge of something, especially the part on which it rests or is supported
She sat down at the base of a tree.
The base of the lamp was chipped.

The adjective is also "base" as in:
"a base fellow", a low-life, a man of low moral principles
"base metals", such as in coins which are made from non-valuable metals
"base instincts" such as greed, envy
