Smile Strawberries have emerged from the pack to becomeTaiwan's top classic fruit

Strawberries have emerged from the pack to becomeTaiwan's top classic fruit in an online vote.

Does the above sound right, especially the part in bold? Thanks.

Re: Strawberries have emerged from the pack to becomeTaiwan's top classic fruit

    Hello Angli,

    It's certainly possible and grammatical.

"Emerge from the pack" is a slightly incongruous metaphor here, perhaps: when you "emerge from the pack", you are very much the active party (the metaphor is from e.g. wolves); but in the case of the fruit, they are acted upon, by the process of the poll.

So I would simplify it a little:

"In an online poll, strawberries have emerged as Taiwan's top classic fruit."

(Here, "emerge" has lost its active force.)

    Best wishes,

    MrP
