    Question question about grammar

I know that when you ask about someone's appearance you should say : What does he look like?; and that you want to know about someone's character you must say: What is he like?...My question is: I have heard people using HOW instead of WHAT...is it normally used? and if this is the case, when or haw you use it? thanks.YN

    The phrases:

"What does he look like?" and "How does he look?" are equivalent.

"What is he like?" and "How is his character?" are also roughly equivalent.

Choosing which phrase to use is largely a matter of personal preference.

    I hope this helps,
