    Abbreviation and sentence structure

What is the correct abbreviation for verses? Is it vv. or Vv.? Also, is it acceptable to start a sentence with "and" or "but"? I've seen it in published books but have always been taught that it was wrong.

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: Abbreviation and sentence structure

    Verses is abbreviated as vss.

There is no reason why a sentence cannot be started with "And" or "But", save that of weak structure or poor style.
