    Seen v. Saw

I need help properly using seen and saw. I was accoustomed to using the word "seen" in place of "saw". I am slowly correcting the habit by using sentences such as:
I saw the light. Instead of using... I seen the light.

The problem is now I'm hesitant to ever use the word "seen." Can you get me a few examples of when it is appropriate to use the word seen?

    Thanks!

I saw him yesterday. (indicating the action happened yesterday)
I have seen him (Though the action taking place in the past, yet SEEN indicates the effect of the action on the present time.) SO:
