    Commas

I typed this in a report at work the other day, and I was not sure where to put the comma or commas in the second sentence. Which is the correct one? I want to know from an English standpoint which is correct, not a medical standpoint.

    A. If there remains a strong clinical concern for mass in the chest, then follow up will be obtained, or alternatively a CT scan of the chest will be performed.

    B. If there remains a strong clinical concern for mass in the chest, then a follow up will be obtained or, alternatively a CT scan of the chest will be performed.

    C. If there remains a strong clinical concern for mass in the chest, then a follow up will be obtained or, alternatively, a CT scan of the chest will be performed.

I would appreciate a straight answer. I posted this before, and someone named David L. would not answer this for me, and he had a very bad attitude.

    Thank you,

    Erin

    Re: Commas

The correct answer is C. You need the two commas to set alternatively apart from the rest of the sentence.
