Sam works the most diligently in his family.

Sam works the most diligently in his family.
Sam works most diligently in his family.
Sam is the most diligent worker in his family.

Do all of the above sound right? Thanks.

The third one is the one that sounds most colloquial.

It rather depends on what are you trying to express - the second one implies that Sam works well within his family, and the third says he is the best worker amongst his relatives. The first is really too awkward.

    Thanks, Anglika.
But why does the first one sound awkward?
