    "out of interest"

    hi,

    I saw this expression on this forum...

    what does "Which route is it, out of interest?" mean?

    "Out of interest,..." introduces a question that may not be strictly relevant to the subject under discussion, but which interests the speaker.

    "out of interest" means that the speaker is mildly interested which route is taken. He/she has listened to the conversation and is curious about the route taken (whatever this really means).
