    tricky sentence(mood)

    I came across a tricky sentence and I can't get the glimpse of it at all.
    Please help me to find the meaning.

    The night exploded in a clap of thunder, and the lights went out.

    Is the above sentence mean 'A clap of thunder exploded in the night'?
    If so, why it has changed like that?

    I type it correct, so there's no typo.

    please give me the answer!!

    Yes, it does, but with a more expressive usage to imply that the thunder was so loud and unexpected that the night seemed to explode.

    I've also noticed the poetical nature of the sentence. Is it an excerpt from some piece of literature ?
    The night exploded in a clap of thunder , and the lights went out.
    dark/ no sound ---> light/ sound ----> light----> dark.
