    "{The} Ukraine"

    The other day I heard from one native speaker that for the country Ukraine, the definite article should be used. Is that correct? What is the reason of it? Thanks in advance ;)

    Re: "{The} Ukraine"

    Thank you dear riverkid for the answer, but after I opened the thread I made a small research about this issue and found an article about the usage of definite article with Ukraine. The conclusion sentence of the article says that ;

    "We may conclude then, that the use of the definite article in English before the name Ukraine is awkward, incorrect and superfluous. Writers who care about good style in their English grammar and the correctness of their language will always avoid the use of "the Ukraine" and use only the simpler and correct "Ukraine."

    ref:Ukraine or "the Ukraine"?
