    What is the difference between al-Qaeda and al-Qaida? I see them in the newspapers written both ways; sometimes hyphenated; sometimes beginning with a capital "a."

    Welcome to the forums.

    There are different transcriptions from Arabic, so both are acceptable. However, technically [I believe] "al" should be lower case.
