    Are you coming with us?

We're talking about the use of 'come' and 'go' these days, and we can't agree with each other.

--We're going to the cinema tonight. Would you love to come?

In this situation, can we say 'Would you love to go? And in this situation, do the British respond similarly to the Americans?

    Thank you.

Re: Are you coming with us?

    I'm British.

The first thing I would like to point out is that neither option is acceptable because of the use of the word 'love'. It should be 'like' as 'love' is only suitable in the reply to such a question.

I am of the opinion that we can say either 'come' or 'go' in this situation but would prefer to say 'come'.

Re: Are you coming with us?

We would say, 'like to come to the cinema?' if you were already planning to go, possible in a group, and suggesting the listener join them. In effect, you are asking, 'would you like to come with us?'

'like to go' indicates that plans have not been made, and the speaker is making a suggestion of taking in a movie. Most probably the suggestion is that they go together. However, if the listener is at a loose end (= has spare time and is feeling a bit bored), the speaker might be making the suggestion to the listener, that the listener go to the movies as something enjoyable he could do.
