    Smile feasts/festivals

Yet evergreen plants like pine trees and holly bushes flourish despite the winter freeze ... When Romans held annual feasts/festivals celebrating the winter solstice, they wove holly into decorating wreaths.

Do both feasts and festivals fit in the above and convey a similar idea? Thanks.

    Re: feasts/festivals

'Feast' suggest food to me, so I would use 'festival' there.

    Thanks, Tdol.

If "feast" suggest food, then does "festival" only imply "activities?"

    Re: feasts/festivals

    Hi angliholic,

feast = a periodic religious festival commemorating an event or honoring a god or saint

festival = in the ancient world a day or days set aside by a city, state, or country for the worship of gods.

festival (adj) = of, relating to, or suitable for a feast or festival; festive

    Regards.

    V.
