    heaps of time

    There's heaps of time before the plane leaves. (OALD 6 edition, heap)

    Could we say 'There're heaps of time before the plane leaves' since I've read 'Heaps of time were wasted' and the like?

    I have only met "Heaps of time was wasted!".
