January 1st not only marks a new calendar year

For many people, January 1st not only marks a new calendar year--it also means a new beginning.

Does the bolded part equate "January 1st not only signifies a new year on a calendar?" If not, how would you rephrase it? Thanks.

Both mean the same. Either would be understood. Grammar is correct in both cases.

    Thanks, oregeezer.
    Got it.

By the way, for curiosity's sake, what does "oregeezer" mean?
