Which is right? " Today is 17th memomerial day of my friend's death"? or should I just say " Today is my friend's 17th memorial day".

    Re: memorial day

Did he die 17 years ago? If so, I would say 'It's been seventeen years to the day since my friend's death'.

    Re: memorial day

So, is it ok to say " Today I have to observe 17th memorial day of my friend's death? ( He died 17 years ago.) Or is there a better way of saying it?
