    2 (same?) phrases

    Good evening,

what is the difference between (or usage of) these 2 phrases:
    *set great store by something
*attach a lot of importance to something

Thanks for help in advance, J.L.

    Re: 2 (same?) phrases

    They are substantively different:

set great store by something = to consider something to be of great importance or value >> I set great store by Christmas as a festival [I consider Christmas as a festival to be of great value]

Attach importance to something = to attach a particular quality to something is to consider it to have that quality >> I attach great importance to the announcement that Christmas is here [I consider the announcement that Christmas is here to be important]
