    It's usually used in sports.
    A baseball team, for example, is allowed to have 25 players.
    But in spring training, there may be many more people who are trying to earn a place on the team. Some of them will be "cut"--eliminated, not accepted for the team.
    The ones who are chosen have "made the cut."
