    How was your night out?

    How was your night out?

Does the above mean "Did you have a good time the night when you were out?"
By the way, is it all right to say "How was your day out?"

A night out (or day out) refers to an excursion of some sort. Your sentences are perfectly acceptable standard English.

I agree with 'night out' as common usage but must admit that I don't hear 'how was your day out' said at all. 'How was your day off?'... 'How was your day at the park' are common usage.

mykwyner, please give me an example of 'day out'. Thanks.

    Thanks, Amigos.
To make sure, does the line in bold refer to "How was your day when you didn't have to go to work?"

Here's an example: "How was your day out?"
"We went to the zoo, the museum, and three department stores."

    Hi, mykwyner!

I understand the question. My interest is whether the question is considered common usage. ("How was your day out?")

The logic of 'day out' and 'night out' makes sense to me. I guess the sticking point is the fact that I seldom hear 'day out' used at all. Is it common usage in North Carolina?

I wouldn't say that it is common, but it is not idiomatic and is as easily understood as night out.
