Smile Thousands of people were waiting in the line

Thousands of people were waiting in the line to welcome the superstar.

Does the above sound very logical to you, the bolded part in particular? Why did they have to wait in the line to welcome the superstar? Thanks.

Except for the 'the', [it's a possibility] it sounds okay, A. It probably doesn't mean a line like at a movie, maybe a better word would be 'mob', but the general idea is the same.

    Thanks, riverkid.
"Mob" sounds best to me, but how do you say the whole sentence with "mob?"

Give it a go // give it a whirl // give it a try, A and then I, or someone else will let you know how you did.

    Here is my take:

Thousands of people were waiting in the mob to welcome the superstar. Or
Thousands of mobs were waiting to welcome the superstar.

Not thousands of mobs as a mob is the group taken as a whole. These people are all of one mob, the one to view the SS.

Thousands of people were waiting in a large mob to welcome the superstar.
