extreme adjectives

Hi,

Can someone give me a concise definition for 'extreme adjectives'? I understand they have special features, but cannot find any information on them.

Do you mean adjective like 'brilliant'? If so, the special feature is that they can't be modified by adverbs like very\fairly, but can be modified by quite\utterly. The basic idea is that they can be emphasised but not given other shades of brilliance, etc.
