    carried it/carried it out

The boy picked up his breakfast, carried it out into his mother's garden (through which runs a small stream of water [a brook]). He sat on the bank of the stream and ate his breakfast.

I would have written the highlighed partas as, "The boy picked up his breakfast, carried it into his mother's garden....................". Could you tell me why "carried it out" is used. I mean why "out" is added.

    Re: carried it/carried it out

It emphasises that the boy went out of the house and into the garden.
