    value equation

Could anyone please explain what the following in bold means in the context?

    1. As in much of the rest of the company, the driver of our results has been a return to fundamentals. We've continued our innovation momentum and improved our advertising significantly. We've sharpened price points and our value equation where necessary.

    2. Great brands deliver scale. Only the largest brands will be able to offer the full range of products, package, and size options to meet the needs of all potential consumers. Only they will have the priceless benefits of scale, cost efficiency, and grester access to best practices and knowledge transfer.

    Thank you.

I have no idea what "sharpening a value equation" might entail; you'll have to ask the author of this blurb. The "benefits of scale" means the benefit derived from producing huge quantities of a product or offering a service to a large number of people. Here's an interesting article on scale:

    Is Scale a Good Thing?
