    What does "take twice as long" mean?

    I can't get it. Please help me.

    There was an accident this morning so it took twice as long to get there.

    It usually takes 20 minutes, today it took 40 minutes. (2x20=40) ...twice as long. He is lucky it wasn't three or four times as long!!
