    Well, in my opinion both are correct even though "Could" is more polite to be used in a request

    Yes, "could" is better. In fact with usages like 'can' and 'could' there can't be a watertight demarcation of correct or incorrect. As far as opinions are concerned they leave the student in a lurch to decide which one to use. That's why a clear statement is required.
