    "make it through"

    hi,

does the sentence "I made it through the night" mean the same as "I was able to survive the night and see the next day" ?

    thanks,
    jc

It could mean that, JC, but it doesn't have to have such a serious meaning.

It could mean, for example, that someone worked their first graveyard shift and they "made it thru the night" without falling asleep.

It's also a song, the name of which is, I believe, "Help me make thru the night", which was written by Kris Kristofferson.

    +++++++++++++

Olivia Newton-John, Help Me Make It Thru The Night

    (Kris Kristofferson)

Take the ribbon from my hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Lay it soft against your skin
Like the shadows on the wall
Come and lay down by my side
    Till the early morning light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night

    I don't care who's right or wrong
    I don't try to understand
    Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight I need a friend

    Yesterday is dead and gone
    And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night

And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
    I don't wanna be alone
Help me make it through the night

    Re: "make it through"

    hi,

    thanks a lot.

    can I also say:

I made it thru the crowd.

I made it thru the blockage.

I made it thru the exam.

    ?

    thanks again,
    jc
